The Hengyang Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference recently have organized and carried out the activity of“safeguard food safety, committee members act first”. Liu Lihua, the chairman of the municipal committee, visited local schools for food safety and pointed out that we must fully implement the General-Secretary Xi's important expositions on food safety, strengthen our sense of responsibility and mission that we shall always bear food safety in our minds, fortify the line of defense for food safety within schools so as to ensure that every bite of food teachers and students eat is safe.

Liu and her fellows inspected the No. 1 canteen and the No. 2 canteen of Hengyang Technician College, where she checked whether the environment is clean, tableware is disinfected and how food taste. In addition, she also paid close attention to issues including food procurement and food sampling. During the visit to the No. 5 Middle School in Hengnan County，Liu was briefed about the school food safety regulation system, regulatory supervision and emergency response and learnt about the implementation of regulatory measures of “daily control, weekly inspection and monthly scheduling”and the building of food safety responsibility system.

Liu also highlighted that school food safety directly bears on the sound development of our next generation and is connected with happiness of countless families and social stability. All relevant departments should keep vigilant and strictly implement food safety measures, strengthen political responsibility, stick to their commitments to serving the public good and fulfill principal responsibilities of the work in school food safety. We should make detailed and tangible efforts in this work with strict measures including the most stringent standards, regulation, penalties and accountability. With a focus on key areas and weak links, we will constantly improve food quality within schools and make food and services better in an attempt to foster a secure, healthy and sound environment for food safety. We need to conduct targeted measures, do a good job in emergency response, stay on high alert and attend to every aspect and detail. More efforts are needed to defuse risks and hazards, solve problems, supervise the whole chain of food safety as we must hold fast to its bottom line. We should strengthen the training and regulation of employers in canteens and ensure the supervision cover all links of food procurement, storage, processing and production. By doing so, we can ensure no mistake in our work.
