The 15th Hunan Mass Fitness Festival kicked off in Hengyang. Led by Olympic champion Wang Mingjuan, nearly 2,000 fitness lovers got together at the Hengyang Sports Center Square, competing in various mass sports events including a colorful run, bodybuilding, and shuttlecock.

The event of this year, themed "Scientific Fitness, Happy Hengyang", will last until December, with nearly 60,000 participants anticipated.

The Hunan Mass Fitness Festival is an important event of Hunan Province to promote sports undertakings and mass sports, and also a mass sports competition boasting the highest standard with the most completed competition system around the province. A camp conference and a number of projects will be held during the festival, such as sports dance, street dance, Chinese chess, shuttlecock, and a sudoku championship.

In recent years, Hengyang City has thoroughly implemented the national strategy of nationwide fitness, striving to build a high-level mass fitness public service system. It has organized a series of brand events of mass sports, including Hengyang Marathon, New Year Run Around Hengyang City, leagues of China's three most-watched team sports (football, basketball and volleyball), and a mass fitness carnival.

The mass fitness festival of this year is hosted by the Hunan Sports Bureau and the Hengyang Municipal People's Government, and organized by the Hunan Social Sports Guidance and Service Center and the Hengyang Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television, and Sports.
