In a coordinated effort to combat telecommunications fraud, Hengshan County police successfully intercepted 600,000 yuan in scam funds on October 18 through a multi-department operation and the effective implementation of the "Police-Bank-Enterprise" anti-fraud early warning mechanism.
The operation began at 9 a.m. when the Hengshan County Anti-Fraud Center received an alert from municipal authorities regarding a local resident, identified as Tang, who had withdrawn 600,000 yuan from the China Postal Savings Bank branch on Wuyi North Road. Intelligence indicated that a money courier was scheduled to collect the fraud-related funds in Hengshan, prompting immediate investigation and interception measures. Upon notification, police quickly contacted the bank branch, only to learn that Tang had already left with the cash. Officers then reached out to Tang directly, but discovered she had been thoroughly manipulated by the scammers and refused to meet with law enforcement. Facing the urgent risk of the large sum being transferred by criminal elements, the Hengshan County Public Security Bureau mobilized multiple police units in an emergency search operation. Through persistent efforts, officers successfully located Tang and prevented the 600,000 yuan from falling into the hands of fraudsters. Investigation revealed that Tang had encountered an individual posing as a Sinopec executive through online communication. After building trust over time, the fraudster convinced Tang to invest through a foreign website requiring US dollar deposits. Lured by promises of high returns, Tang allowed the scammer to "assist" with the transactions, ultimately handing over cash to an intermediary near a local barbecue restaurant on October 17. When Tang observed increased returns on the platform and attempted to withdraw another 600,000 yuan on October 18, police collaborated with telecommunications providers to disable her mobile internet connection at the critical moment. This intervention prevented Tang from meeting with the arranged courier near a primary school, successfully safeguarding the funds. |
