Xiangtong International (Hengdong) Gas Power Generation Co., Ltd. achieved a significant breakthrough today as the gas turbine of its Unit 2 successfully ignited at 1:47 p.m., marking crucial progress in Hunan's first heavy-duty gas turbine peaking project.

As a key energy initiative under Hunan's 14th Five-Year Plan, the Hengdong gas-fired power project has benefited from strong support across provincial, municipal, and county levels, with close government-enterprise coordination driving construction forward.

The project team built upon experience gained from Unit 1, which achieved success at all critical construction milestones, implementing higher standards and enhanced collaboration to accelerate progress. All participating units maintained close communication and efficient coordination, with technical personnel conducting round-the-clock monitoring to ensure operational safety and stability.

Prior to the ignition, comprehensive safety inspections and defect elimination were performed for critical procedures including natural gas replacement and turbine trial operation, achieving both high-quality advancement and zero safety incidents.

Unit 1, which commenced operation on August 6 after passing a 168-hour full-load trial, represents Hunan's first large-scale gas-fired power plant. Utilizing internationally advanced 9F-class heavy-duty gas turbine technology, the project achieves 15% higher energy conversion efficiency than conventional coal power with only half the carbon emissions. The facility's minute-level rapid start-stop capability provides exceptional peaking flexibility.

Upon full operation, the plant is expected to generate over 1.76 billion kWh annually, with output value exceeding 1 billion yuan and annual tax contributions surpassing 80 million yuan. The project will significantly enhance Hunan's power supply stability, particularly during seasonal peak demand periods, while contributing to provincial energy structure optimization and regional economic development in southern Hunan.

Looking ahead, Hengdong Gas-Fired Power will continue to focus on full project commissioning, closely monitoring subsequent debugging milestones while strengthening quality control and safety management to achieve dual-unit operation at the earliest opportunity.
