Since the second half of 2026, under the guidance of the Hengyang Municipal Office for Cultural and Ethical Progress, the Hengyang Model Citizens and Good Samaritans Volunteer Service Team has continued to deepen its “Ten Services for Local Residents” civic practice project. Focusing on summer drowning prevention, community safety talks, and care for family planning households and people in extreme difficulty, volunteers have delivered thoughtful services through New Era Civilization Practice centers and stations.

During the summer, volunteers from Hengdong, Changning and Leiyang visited communities, villages, ponds and riversides to publicize drowning prevention knowledge. Through household visits, brochures and on-site explanations, they repeatedly reminded parents and children of key safety rules and used real cases to strengthen awareness.

Relying on the “Shoufeng Night Talks” grassroots governance platform, volunteers including Zhou Zhengguo carried out safety education in communities. In residential squares and courtyards, volunteers used plain language to explain risks related to fire, electricity, electric bicycle charging and blocked corridors, and demonstrated how to use fire extinguishers.

On July 31, a four-day “Colorful Summer, Happy Growth” public welfare class opened at the Party-mass service center in Banqiao Town, Changning, benefiting 32 rural children. Volunteer Liu Zhiyong focused on safety, culture and dreams, using cartoons, drills and games to teach drowning prevention, self-protection and anti-bullying knowledge.

The team has also helped vulnerable groups. On September 10, volunteers Yin Chunyun and Wang Chunzhen helped a 71-year-old resident in Zhengxiang District sell 300 jin of unsold wax gourds by connecting him with a caring enterprise. Volunteers Teng Zhiyu and Yang Jianxiu also provided long-term care for an elderly man in extreme difficulty, helping with meals, daily supplies, haircuts and medical care.

On September 10 and 18, volunteers visited communities in Shigu and Zhengxiang districts, offering free haircuts, knife sharpening and bread for elderly and needy residents.

A municipal official said the service team has turned the power of role models into practical action, adding warmth and positive energy to Hengyang’s cultural and ethical progress.
