The Hengyang Municipal Education Bureau has recently issued a notice on the 2026 autumn break for compulsory education schools across the city, aiming to guide students to get closer to nature, take part in practical activities and broaden their horizons.

According to the notice, the autumn break will run from November 11 to 13, 2026, from Wednesday to Friday. Together with the weekend from November 14 to 15, students will have a five-day break. Classes will resume on Monday, November 16. The arrangement applies to compulsory education schools across Hengyang, while kindergartens may refer to the policy based on their own conditions.

The notice requires local education authorities and schools to make early arrangements, strengthen organization and ensure the smooth implementation of all work. Schools should scientifically adjust teaching schedules while ensuring that national curriculum requirements are fully met, normal teaching tasks are completed and the total teaching time of the semester remains unchanged.

During the autumn break, schools should in principle not assign written homework or increase students’ regular academic burden because of the holiday arrangement.

Before the break, schools should organize safety education covering traffic, fire prevention, drowning prevention, food hygiene and autumn infectious disease prevention. They should also guide parents to strengthen safety management during the holiday.

The notice also calls for special attention to left-behind children and other groups requiring additional care. Schools should establish one-on-one contact mechanisms between teachers and students, identify students from dual-income families or those facing care difficulties, and provide voluntary, public-benefit childcare services on campus where conditions allow. Such services may include sports and cultural activities, but group tutoring or teaching of new lessons is strictly prohibited.

Schools are encouraged to explain the purpose and arrangements of the autumn break to parents through meetings and home-school communication channels. Parents are encouraged to organize family activities, volunteer services, labor practice, nature observation and outdoor sports to support students’ all-round development.
