Hengyang Ranks Second in Hunan in National Day Holiday Box Office Revenue

Hengyang's film market delivered strong performance during the 2026 National Day holiday, generating approximately 2.9 million yuan in box office revenue and recording 87,000 cinema admissions. The city ranked second in Hunan Province, behind only the provincial capital Changsha.

During the seven-day holiday, cinemas across Hengyang attracted large numbers of moviegoers. Long queues formed at ticket collection machines, waiting areas were crowded, and tickets for several popular screenings sold out.

Traces of Justice topped the local box office with 1.304 million yuan in ticket sales, followed by Resident Evil with 424,100 yuan and Mr. & Mrs. Pardon with 348,700 yuan. The animated film Peppa Pig's Perfect Holiday also proved popular among families with children.

Among local cinemas, Hengyang Wanda Cinema led the rankings with 515,000 yuan in box office revenue and approximately 12,000 admissions. Jinyi IMAX Cinema and Rongguan Global Cinema followed.

A total of 9,558 screenings were held across the city during the holiday, with an average ticket price of 33.2 yuan.

Audience preferences varied by film genre. Traces of Justice and Resident Evil were particularly popular among younger moviegoers, while Mr. & Mrs. Pardon attracted a higher proportion of couples and groups. Peppa Pig's Perfect Holiday offered an appealing option for family outings.

A cinema manager in Zhengxiang District attributed the strong performance partly to the diverse selection of films, which included suspense, action and animation, providing audiences with more choices.

The manager also noted that Hengyang's growing profile following the 12th Global Hunan Entrepreneurs Conference had helped stimulate cultural and tourism consumption, contributing to increased cinema attendance during the holiday.

The strong holiday box office performance reflected residents' enthusiasm for cultural entertainment and the positive interaction between the city's cultural, tourism and consumer markets.
