In recent days, as the temperature difference between day and night has widened, the colored-leaf trees along the city's riverside shoreline and river embankments have gradually put on their autumn "makeup," raising the curtain on a season of brilliant color. In Xuegongyuan (the Academy Garden), the metasequoia trees have shifted from fresh green to caramel while the ginkgo trees have turned from green to yellow. The colored foliage adds autumn charm and the scenery is as beautiful as a painting, drawing residents and visitors to stop and admire the leaves and savor the season.
On the afternoon of October 22, the reporter saw in Xuegongyuan that the tall, upright metasequoia trees seemed to have been dyed by the autumn wind, gradually changing from summer's fresh green to autumn's caramel. The leaves of the tall ginkgo trees turned from green to yellow, performing a prelude to the shifting seasons. Residents and visitors strolled in groups, slowing their pace to quietly enjoy the foliage and the view.
"The autumn wind brings coolness, and the metasequoia and other colored-leaf trees here have put on their colorful ‘autumn makeup’ early — it really is quite beautiful," said a resident of Xianfeng Road, noting that this summer's rainfall was relatively abundant, so the metasequoia grew well, their leaves spread out and danced lightly in the wind, which is especially pleasing to the eye.
A person in charge of the Municipal Riverside Scenic Belt Affairs Center explained that metasequoia trees have been rooted in Xuegongyuan for more than thirty years. This autumn they "changed new makeup" somewhat earlier than in previous years. Besides metasequoia and ginkgo, the garden also has maple, Elaeocarpus and other colored-leaf trees. The autumn colors and the river scenery set each other off, and the autumn mood along the river is slowly unfolding.
