On October 27, Chen Shichang and Zhu Lin, two athletes from Hengyang who had competed at the 5th Asian Para Games, returned home in triumph. Through tenacious effort, the two brought home a total of 4 gold medals and 1 bronze medal, adding luster to Hengyang.
In the morning, Chen Shichang and Zhu Lin visited the Hengyang Disabled Persons' Federation, where they sat together and chatted about their competition experiences, career plans and upcoming events. After the exchange, leaders of the Federation presented them with bouquets and took group photos with them, capturing this warm and beautiful moment in a heartwarming atmosphere.
Chen Shichang, from Yintian Town of Changning City, was born with a congenital eye disease. Yet the obstacle of fate never stopped him from running; he has stepped onto the field time and again, constantly surpassing himself. In 2021, he won the gold medal in the men's triple jump (T11) and the silver medal in the 4x100m relay (T11-13) at the 11th National Para Games. In May 2024, he claimed the gold medal in the men's long jump (T11) at the 11th World Para Athletics Championships with a record breaking leap of 6.62 meters, and in August of the same year he took the silver medal in the men's long jump (T11) at the Paris Paralympic Games. At the 5th Asian Para Games in 2026, he captured the bronze medal in the men's 100m (T11) and the gold medal in the men's 400m (T11), and in the men's long jump (T11) he won gold with a leap of 6.64 meters, breaking the Games’ record.
Zhu Lin, a young woman from Leiyang City, also lives with a congenital eye condition. Thanks to her day-after-day hard training, she has excelled at para-sports competitions at home and abroad, and she holds the national records in the women's 100m and 400m (T13) and the Asian record in the 200m. On this Asian Para Games journey, Zhu Lin was in superb form: she won the title in the women's 100m (T13), and in the 400m (T13) she clocked an excellent 58.10 seconds, taking gold while breaking the Games record and showing the "Hengyang speed" to the world.
