The Short-term Scholarship Scheme for Foreign Teachers of Chinese Language is set up by the Ministry of Education of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE) with a view to helping overseas professional teachers of Chinese language to improve their teaching skills and to facilitate the cooperation and exchanges in Chinese language teaching among teachers from different nations. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) is authorized to handle the enrollment and carry out the routine management of this scholarship program.
Recruitment quota for 2009 will be specified according to MOE Scholarship Scheme.  

Application
The applicants may apply for the scholarship through the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home countries or directly apply to CSC. The application deadline is April 30th, 2009  

Eligibility  

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, be in good health and under the age of 50.  

2. Applicants must be engaged in teaching Chinese for at least three consecutive years and be full-time Chinese teachers for the time being. 3. Applicants must have obtained Bachelor`s degree or above.  

Details of the Scholarship
1. Exemption of tuition fee, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation;
2. Free emergency medical care service;
3. One-off living allowance: CNY 2,000 Yuan;
4. Free transportation, accommodation and meals during the teaching tour (outside Beijing) organized by the admitting institutions.  

Short-term Courses Period and Host Institutions
Host institutions: Beijing Language and Culture University, Beijing Normal University  

Period: July 6th to August 16th, 2009, including:
- 4 weeks of classroom instruction: July 6th to August 2nd
- 2 weeks of teaching tour outside Beijing: August 3rd to August 16th　　
Course Arrangements and Teaching Tour  

1.  Course arrangements: Chinese Phonetics, Grammar, Lexicon and their teaching contents and methods in teaching Chinese as a second and foreign language; Oral Chinese teaching, Listening comprehension, and Reading comprehension; Chinese classroom teaching theory and approach; Chinese improving courses; lectures on Chinese culture, teaching practice.  

2.  Teaching-Tour: A two-week teaching tour will be arranged by the host institution after the classroom instruction:
The route for Beijing Language and Culture University:
Beijing-Xi`an (Shaanxi Province)-Nanjing (Jiangsu Province)-Suzhou (Jiangsu Province) -Wuzhen (Zhejiang Province)-Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province)-Shanghai-Beijing
The route for Beijing Normal University:
Beijing-Anyang (Henan Province)-Zhengzhou-Kaifeng-Luoyang-Dengfeng-Xi`an (Shaanxi Province)-Beijing
Application Materials  

The applicants must fill in and provide the following materials truly and correctly (in duplicate).
1. Application Form for Short-term Scholarship for Foreign Teachers of Chinese Language (printed by CSC), filled in Chinese only. It can be downloaded from CSC website (www.csc.edu.cn).  

2. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or in English.  

3. One letter of recommendation from the president of the institution, one from a professor of Chinese teaching; Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or in English.  

4. Employment documents; documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations (notarized photocopy) in Chinese or in English.  

5. Study plan written in Chinese (no less than 400 words).  

The application materials shall reach CSC before April 30th 2009.  

Approval and Notification
CSC will review the application materials before forwarding them to relevant institutions for admission. CSC will send the Confirmation of Short-term Scholarship for Foreign Teachers of Chinese Language, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW 201) to the relevant Chinese diplomatic missions by June 15th, 2009, who will forward these documents to the successful applicants.
