In the neurology clinic of the Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhan Kebin meticulously discusses future treatment plans with patients. Facing anxious family members, he patiently explains, spending nearly half an hour in communication until patients and their loved ones leave reassured. "We must communicate from the patient’s perspective," Zhan says. "Taking extra care to explain can make all the difference." Despite a consistently high patient volume, he goes above and beyond: performing botulinum toxin injections for facial spasms, crafting personalized treatment plans for patient with Parkinson's disease with meticulous attention to detail, and addressing youth mental health through a holistic "medication + therapy + social support" approach. This integrated care has helped over 80% of his young patients return to school, secure employment, or regain confidence in life.

Beyond his clinical excellence, Zhan is an outstanding medical educator. He innovates teaching methods, refines curricula, and designs personalized learning plans to unlock students’ potential. Under his mentorship, graduate students have secured two innovative research grants. In 2021, one of his supervisees earned the Hunan Provincial Outstanding Master’s Thesis award, while Zhan himself has twice been honored as the hospital’s "Outstanding Teacher." Zhan also actively engages in social initiatives. He organizes annual World Parkinson’s Day awareness campaigns, offering education and psychological support to patients and families. He volunteers in free clinics, bringing healthcare to communities and rural areas. "Outreach creates immense social value," Zhan emphasizes. "For example, psychology lectures in schools equip youth with knowledge and encourage timely support-seeking."

For over two decades, Zhan Kebin has honored the oath of "To Cure Sometimes, To Relieve Often, To Comfort Always." Through tangible action, he writes a new chapter of responsibility and honor for healers in China’s journey toward "Healthy China." As he puts it: "Do what you should do well.
