"TikTok Customer Service" Traps Elderly Woman? Hengyang Police Intercept Over ¥300,000 in "Emergency Rescue"
From:衡阳新闻网 | Date Add in:2025-08-06 21:17:32 [A  A]

On the evening of July 25th, a dramatic "race against time" unfolded against fraudsters at the Changfeng Police Station under the High-Tech Development Zone Branch of the Hengyang Municipal Public Security Bureau. Owing to their swift and professional action, officers on duty successfully protected over ¥300,000 in savings and recovered ¥5,000 in transferred funds for an elderly resident, Grandma Huang, preventing devastating financial losses for the senior citizen.

Around 6 p.m. that day, a visibly distressed Grandma Huang rushed into Changfeng Police Station seeking help. She reported that her phone had suddenly gone black after receiving a call from an unknown number, suspecting she had fallen victim to an online scam. This awareness stemmed directly from multiple anti-fraud awareness sessions previously conducted in her community by the station’s community policing officers, which had instilled in her a degree of vigilance against fraudulent schemes.

Through police questioning, the details emerged: Around 3 p.m. that afternoon, a man claiming to be "TikTok Customer Service" had called Grandma Huang. Under the pretext of "disabling an automatic TikTok subscription renewal service," he tricked her into clicking an unfamiliar link, divulging her bank account payment password, and performing video facial recognition verification. Immediately after completing these actions, her phone screen turned black. Realizing she might have been scammed, she hurried to the police station.

Highly alert, the duty officers took immediate emergency measures. They first disconnected Grandma Huang’s phone from the network, removed its SIM card, and forcibly restarted the device to prevent further remote control by the scammers. Examination revealed that fraudulent software had been secretly installed on her phone. More alarmingly, the scammers had also impersonated Grandma Huang on WeChat, sending a distress message to her sister to trick her into transferring ¥5,000 to a designated WeChat account – a transaction that had already gone through.

As the situation is quite critical, officers split into two teams to deal with it:

One team urgently contacted the relevant banks to freeze Grandma Huang’s bank accounts, successfully safeguarding the over ¥300,000 in deposits.

Another team immediately accessed Grandma Huang’s WeChat account to trace the funds. Through emergency intervention on the platform, they managed to retrieve the ¥5,000 that Huang’s her sister had just transferred, reversing the transaction back to its source.

From the time of Grandma Huang’s initial report to the time of the full resolution of the emergency, the police resolved the crisis in less than an hour. Overwhelmed with relief as her funds were restored, Grandma Huang repeatedly expressed her profound gratitude to the officers.

Police Reminder:

Changfeng Police Station officers emphasized that elderly individuals are common targets of online scams. When receiving calls from strangers demanding actions like clicking links, providing passwords, or performing facial recognition verification, it is crucial to:

Remain highly vigilant.

Immediately contact family members or call the local police station for verification.

Never blindly follow instructions from unknown individuals.

Protecting one's hard-earned money requires constant caution.
