In March in Jiangnan, the grass sprouts and the warblers fly, and the willows are green and the peach blossoms are red. In Dongzhou, the center of Xiangjiang River in Hengyang, the peach blossoms are in full bloom, swinging in the wind, just like a big flower basket floating on the surging Xiangjiang River. Dongzhou is surrounded by water; however, no matter how the river rises, it will never be submerged.  

It is said that a long time ago, there was a celestial being fishing in the Xiangjiang River. When the wind was strong, the fishing boat capsized and turned into a hill. It is also said that when Niulang and Zhinv reunited on the day of Qixi, the golden shuttle in Zhinv’s hand slipped down the Xiangjiang River by chance, and turned into Dongzhou. There was the Longevity Palace built in the Ming Dynasty, and the forest of exquisitely carved steles remains today. Besides, Chuanshan Academy was built here in the Qing Dynasty, in which Wang Chuanshan and Peng Yulin once studied.
