There are 12 beautiful scenic areas in Hengyang City, including a 5A-level, seven 3A-level, and four 2A-level scenic spots. Thanks to the rich tourism resources, Hengyang has implemented the strategy of enriching the city by developing tourism in recent years, and thus has successfully established itself as one of the top 100 competitive tourist city in China. Hengshan―the mountain of longevity, and Hengyang as City of wild geese, have become a famous touristic brand in China. Nanyeu Mountain cultural Festival on Longevity has become one of China`s top ten festivals. Hengyang is not only crowned as a well-known eco-paradise and religious sites both at home and broad, but also marked as a birthplace of Hunan culture, which has nurtured and cultivated the famous celebrities such as Zhou Dunyi, Wang Chuanshan, Tseng Kuo-fan, who vividly represented the glorious achivements of Hunan culture. Recently, with the reconstruction and repairment of some cultural attractions, Hengyang has become a classic city representing the Hunan culture, while the culture in return constituting te charm of Hengyang tourism. To promote the development of tourism in Hengyang, the government holds many activities.
1. The International Cultural Festival on Longevity in Hengshan Mountain and the Cultural Tourism Festival of Hunan Culture
The festival announced its grand Opening on Wanshou Square: in Hengshan Mountain at 8:28 on September 18. Many a meida worker of television and newspapers as well as travel agencies from all over the country, came to the spot to report the big celebration with the songs of stars, dancing by 1000 dancers, and the traditional dragon and lion dancing. Nearly 50000 people witnessed the spectacular opening scene in the live show. Noted as the top one mountain for Chinese health tourism, Hengyang is also newly declared as a famous city representing the Hunan culture. This festival has finally established the two travel brands of Hengyang－Hengshan Mountain as the top one mountain for health tourism, and Hengyang as Hunan cultural tourism city. There will be a golden time for tourism and cultural exchanging.
2. Four Major Celebtating Activities in the International Tourism Festival
The International Tourism Festival was held by Hengyang government on September 12, 2009. There were four major celebtating activities in the opening ceremony, including drifting competition for couples in Hengshan Kowloon Gap, the opening of Cai Lun Zhuhai Tourism Scenic Area in Leiyang, Hengnan joyful party and trekking activity in Qishan Forest. Besides, the Ninth International Festival on longevity held on October 26, was the most important event in this festival.
During September 1 -30, the Kowloon Southern Mountain Gap would be visited by 520 couples, who were going to have fun in the rafting competition. The winners would get 1000 yuan. Hengshan Mountain would witness the unwavering love of those couples.
After Cai Lun Zhuhai Tourism Scenic Area in Leiyang announced the opening ceremony, there will be thousands of people travelling in the bamboo forest, and some joining in the mountain- climbing competition to be held in Zhuhai, as along as swimming competition, photography competition and so on.
In the Hengnan joyful party on October 16, visitors could watch the authentic Flower Drum Opera, and traditional dragon dance, and go hiking or trekking in forest.
This International Festival on longevity would hold and two warming-up activities. The two dominant programmes include opening of the stone engraved "may you live as long as the Southern Mountain" and the premiere of books and DVD about the opening of forum on longevity. At the same time there would be a awards ceremony for a sing competition for respecting and caring for the old. The two warming-up activities include 2009 Chinese calligraphy and Hengshan Mountain Forum and the Seventh China Hengshan Mountain Bike Challenge Race on the theme of "life lies in movement Life and may you live long" .
