Hengshan Huaguo Mountain Scenic Area is located in Baiguo Town, Hengshan County, Hunan Province. It borders the Baiguo Exit of Yueyang–Linwu Expressway to the north and the Nanyue Hengshan Scenic Area to the south, boasting convenient transportation and a superior geographical location. Covering a total area of 16 square kilometers, the area is dominated by Danxia landforms and features several typical Danxia caves arranged in an orderly layout. With deep and serene valleys and overlapping ridges, it is endowed with abundant forest resources.
It combines the elegance of Nanyue Hengshan with the magnificence of Danxia landforms, well deserving its reputation as the Back Garden of Nanyue Hengshan.
Centering on the legendary Huaguo Mountain from Journey to the West, the scenic area recreates classic and wonderful plots featured in the TV drama adaptation. Its attractions reproduce mythological scenes from the classic, including the Magic Golden Cudgel, Spider Cave, Five Elements Mountain, Three Attacks on the White Bone Demon, Daughter Kingdom, Golden Turtle Overlooking the Stream, Tongtian River, Peach Orchard, Water Curtain Cave, Guanyin Platform, Monkey King Rock, Lotus Fairyland, and Bajie Cave. Relying on its enchanting mountains and clear waters, the resort presents an idyllic fairyland with blooming flowers in four seasons and ripe fruits all year round. As an old verse goes:

Invested by Hengshan Wanhe Tourism Development Co., Ltd., the Journey to the West Cave Tourist Zone is constructed in three phases, covering about 5,000 mu, with an upfront investment of over 80 million yuan. It officially opened to the public during the National Day holiday in October 2016. Upon full completion and operation, it will become the only commercial tourist consumption zone and the first scenic area built in accordance with AAAA-level standards in Hengshan County.
In February 2020, as a tribute to medical workers nationwide, the scenic area offered free admission to all medical professionals from its official reopening after the pandemic until December 31, 2020. Eligible visitors could enjoy free entry within 2020 by presenting valid professional credentials.
Xijiang Rafting is located in Changning City, Hengyang City, enjoying the reputations of "No.1 Rafting in China’s Yao Township" and "No.1 Rafting in Hunan".
It is 86 kilometers south of downtown Hengyang, Hunan Province, and adjacent to the Hengyang–Guilin Expressway on the east. The Xijiang River originates from Tiantang Mountain within the territory, with an altitude of 1,265 meters.
The rafting route starts at Wanmuyuan in Xijiang Village and ends at Puzhuyuan in Puzhu Village, passing scenic spots such as Lancai Slope, Xijiang Estuary, Snake Bend and Jianbao Mountain. The whole course stretches 10 kilometers and takes more than two hours to drift. With dangerous shoals, swift bends and a total drop of up to 150 meters, it offers thrilling rafting experience.
Qishan Mountain, one of the Seventy-Two Peaks of Nanyue in Hunan, is 39 kilometers away from Hengyang — an important central city in central South China and a regional hub in northern South China. As one of the seventy-two peaks of Nanyue Hengshan, Qishan Mountain stretches for dozens of miles like a phoenix spreading its wings to take flight. It features towering ancient trees, lush forests and emerald bamboo groves, enjoying a mild climate warm in winter and cool in summer, as well as gorgeous and picturesque scenery.
Covering a total area of 1,826 hectares with an altitude of 800 meters, the mountain consists of 28 scenic spots including Phoenix Mountain, Huoyan Mountain, Leizu Peak and Xian'e Ridge.
Renrui Temple houses treasures such as jade Buddha statues and jade ornaments, together with over 7,000 volumes of Buddhist sutras, precepts and treatises, adding a strong mysterious charm to Qishan Mountain.
Home to more than 400 species of plants, it serves as a precious plant gene bank and botanical specimen garden in China. Experts at home and abroad have recognized it as the only well-preserved secondary primeval forest with rare ancient trees in southern China.
Now officially designated as a National AAAA Tourist Attraction, National Forest Park and Provincial Nature Reserve, Qishan Mountain is a renowned resort for summer retreat, leisure tourism and Buddhist pilgrimage in South China.
Jiulong Gorge Rafting is located in Hengyang City, Hunan Province, nestled in a remote mountain valley between Goulou Peak and Baishi Peak of Nanyue Hengshan Mountain. It is 26 kilometers north of downtown Hengyang and 12 kilometers south of the core scenic area of Nanyue Hengshan.
Stretching from Miaoxi Village in Hengyang County in the upper reach to Baini Village in Hengshan County in the lower reach, the rafting course spans two counties with a total length of 5 kilometers and a total water drop of 110 meters. Legend has it that the ancient tale of Nine Dragons Controlling the Flood took place right here.
On both banks of Jiulong Gorge stand towering peaks covered by lush and elegant pine forests and graceful bamboo seas, accompanied by charming idyllic rural scenery. The rafting route is dotted with alternating deep pools and rapids, featuring nine major torrents and eighteen shoals. The rushing water surges up and down like dancing dragons, earning it the reputation as "The No.1 Rafting Destination Among China’s Five Great Mountains".

Located in Huitang Town, south of Ningxiang City, Huitang Hot Springs is one of the three famous high-temperature hot springs in China. It has a history of 2,000 years. The water emerges at is 102℃ and remains as high as 89.5℃.

Mangshan Hot Springs is located inside the Mangshan National Forest Park. The water temperature is 55.5℃. It is rich in metasilicic acid which is good for health.

Buermen Hot Springs is located in Buermen National Forest Park. Its water temperature is 39.8℃-41℃ all year round. Its daily water flow is up to over 2,400 cubic meters. It contains many trace minerals such as selenium, sulphur, calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
It is adjacent to Laosicheng Site—World Cultural Heritage Site; Furong Town—a 1,000-year-old ancient town; Mengdong River Scenic Area; and, Hunan Xiaoxi National Natural Reserve.

1. Paradise Mount: The most beautiful name is left in the depths of the mountains.
Many tourists are flocking to Paradise Mount because of overwhelming azaleas. Every April or May, delicate and charming azaleas would cover the land over five hundred meters high on Paradise Mount.
Deng Bocheng, director of executive office of township government in Tashan, Changning said that every April or May, Tashan village receives more than five hundred visitors per day on average with a maximum of about thousands.
Route: You can take express buses in Central Bus Station to Lotus bus station in Changning (Hunan transportation). And then you can go to Quanfeng station by NO.3 public bus for free. There are two regular buses to Puzhu village, Tasan in Quan Feng station, nine o’clock around in the morning and half past four around in the afternoon. You can get off at Fengchekou. Then you need to walk six kilometers to the foot of the mountain or you can thumb a ride. You need to go up the mountain on foot totally. Tourists going a self-driving travel can have navigation to Shiyuan Village down Paradise Mount.

2. Tianzhu Peak: You can get a wide view of surrounding scenery and it is most beautiful when mist in the mountain seems clear but not.
Tianzhu Peak is situated in the southwest of Zhurong Peak, 1061 meters above sea level. "Nanyue records" written in Guangxu period in Qing Dynasty said that "two peaks are dignified and towering. Their shapes are like pillars." hence the name. There is a two-story hexagonal stone pavilion which was built by forestry departments for inspecting fire warning in the 1960s. There are stone steps to the summit in the east and west. Cliff in the south and north seem to be cut out, and the most dangerous spot of the summit is only three feet wide. Mountain wind roaring, tourists have to crawl through here. There is a small level ground where you can enjoy surrounding scenery: you can have a panoramic view of ancient and beautiful Nanyue Town, criss-crossing highway, rolling hills, rank after rank of terraces.
What`s more, stone inscription on the south side of the cliff is the biggest one in Nanyue.
There is "Sky Column and stone chamber" built with granite in twenty-five years on the way. Running water and toilet are available, so it is the best place for camping. Basket carriers who camped here said that on a foggy day, when mist seems clear but not, deep mountains looming in the clouds have a unique lingering charm.
Route: Enter into Hengshan Mountain scenic area, walk along the highway to Mojing Tai, and go up the peak from hiking trails.

3. Goulou Peak: It is near, and has numerous historical sites for enjoying.
Goulou Peak is located in the northern suburbs of Hengyang, only 25 kilometers away from Hengyang city, 1106meters above sea level. Forest coverage there reaches 95%. The east side of the peak is close to Xiangjiang; the west faces Jiufeng; the north clasps Zhurong; the south is adjacent to the urban area of Hengyang. National road 107 passes near the hill. Lila highway goes straight to the summit. There are numerous historical sites, including Yuwang Temple, Yuwang Stele and other significant cultural relics and historic sites. It is a good place to climb mountains, escape the heat, relax and spend the weekends.
Route: Take NO.13 public bus to Jibing and go to the foot of the mountain by minibus.

4. Jiuguan Lake: bonfire party can be held and authentic Hengdong cuisine are available.
Jiuguan Lake lies in the border area between Tiane Village and Shini Village, Dianmen Town, Hengdong County. It is like a wild goose spreading its wings and flying up seen from high.
The lake covers 38.93 square kilometers, holding 28.8 million cubic meters. The irrigation area of it is 95 thousand mou. It is the biggest reservoir in Hengdong. Surrounded by green hills, it is a good choice for leisure for the peaceful environment there. Through further development and construction, now it becomes a comprehensive resort for irrigation, electricity generation, travel, leisure and provides authentic Hengdong cuisine.
"You can have a bonfire party when you camp at Jiuguan Lake. Groups of people gather around the bonfire. Facing the lake, you will suddenly cheer up." introduced by a tourist.

5. Dongzhou Island: It is a good choice for calm thinking.
When you mention Dongzhou island, every person in Hengyang knows it. It is about 2 kilometers long and more than 200 meters wide. There are temples, academies, ancient trees, peach blossoms, dense shade, and quiet environment. The sand beach can be seen at dry season. Jun Mount of Yueyang, Juzi Island of Changsha and Dongzhou Island of Hengyang are called three islands in Xingjiang river basin.

It was really refreshing to spend half a day walking in the He Ling Mountain, which lies in the Shigang village, Ganxi Town Hengdong County.
On September 2, 2013, the weather was fine. The journalist with some outdoor sports enthusiasts set out from Hengyang City to Hengdong County through Hengyang-Shaoyang Expressway and Quannan Expressways. After reaching Hengdong County, they drove directly to the Shigang village on the NO. X001 and S315 National Roads. If there hadn`t been a traffic jam, we only would have spent 100 minutes to get there.
It just took 15 minutes to climb up to the top since He Ling mountain isn`t very high. Upon reaching the mountain top, a marvelous ridge line jumped into your view. In such a beautiful scenery in the mountain, the journalist couldn`t help praising:"What a shocking ridge line it is!"
The sky in the autumn was purely blue and clear. Standing on the mountain ridge and looking up to the gorgeous blue sky, travelers would be easily drunken in the genuine beauty and would certainly get a clear mind. Then why not look down? You will get a panoramic view of the range upon range made up of green mountains and meandering villages as well as the golden rice fields.
The great huge stones in this mountain are the bonous given by the nature. The miraculous charm of the nature is also unfolding completely among these stones. Some of them just are standing there like lions in the mountain, and some of them are lying there as if they have fallen down from the universe. Some of them look like the cheeks of human beings. You will surely marveled at the work of God under such circumstances.
It took us about 5 hours to walk through the ridge line, which extends to the Dongyan Town.
It was the second time for the captain of this outdoor activity who is called "qing hui gun ying" on the Internet to get to the He Ling Mountain. Excited, he stood in a pure yellow grassland and told us: I love the blue sky and white cloud, the wild grass as well as the cool wind very much, It`s a good place to take photos absolutely."
A senior student of Hengyang Normal University, whose nickname is "qing tian xiao zhu”"on the Internet took some photos in such a beautiful scenery. He was another leader of this team. While appreciating the beauty of the mountain, he said pleasantly: It’s a fantastic aerobic exercise and it maximizes the happiness of ourselves.

Yumu Mount
Yunmu mount is so-named for the wreathing mist shaped by the special geograph there. It is easy to form clouds and fog here because of the influence of topography. Yumu Mount is located to the southwest of Hengyang, east of which is connected with Huiyan Peak, one of the 72 peaks of Hengshan Mountain, south of which is connected with Shiniu Peak in Hengnan County. Yunmu Mount is the nearest, largest and best ecological place with beautiful mountains and rivers in Hengyang. Water is gurgling down Yumu Mount to form lakes. There are Yunmu Lake in the south, Sitangchong reservoir in the north, Jiulongchong reservoir in the west, Guolutang reservoir wrapping around the base of the mount, like mirrors reflecting the continuous mountains, which is really astounding and fascinating. It is a real good choice to drive there for relaxation and fresh air. It is convenient to have lunch in the farmhouse restaurant at the foot of Yunmu Mount. The delicious preserved fish and meat and meals in local wild game definitely let you want to wolf them down.

Xijiang Drift
Xijiang originates from Heaven Mount which is 1265 meters above sea level in Tashan Yao nationality village, Changning city. Its total length is 10 km. And the drop of it is up to 100 meters. There are 16 rapids and more than 20 sharp bends along the way where picturesque shores flush with flourish vegetation. You can listen to music of Yao, watch the local building in Yao village and enjoy folk performances of Yao nationality while drifting in a boat. The travelers can see Yao girls waving to travelers on board or ashore. There are custom parties in the evening. You can taste exquisite Yao cuisines after drift. You are definitely going to have a special and interesting experience there!
Feitian Mount
Feitian Mount is situated in Suxian district of Chengzhou city. Feitian Mount has long enjoyed good reputation. The great geographic expert, Xu Xiake in Ming dynasty praised that no land here is without beauty and no mount here is without oddity. And it is engraved on the mount with" every inch of mount is beautiful". There are rolling hills, criss-crossing ravines and gullies, water and mountains, scattered yet well-proportioned village in scenic region.The delicate are wonderful workmanship excelling nature like having been crafted; The magnificent are roaring across the horizon with soaring aspirations. The picturesque scenery around Cui River can compete with Li River in Guilin which is a very well-known scenic spot in China. It enjoys the reputation of "Little Guilin". As a famous ancient poem said "DanXia landform cuts off green mountains in the distance, stones appear mysteriously" along the river. Jiuguan Bridge is named for Jiuguan Bridge reservoir hiding in a valley between Zhurong Peak of Hengshan Mountain and Goulou peak. Countless brooks like Jiulong Xia gather and form this large reservoir showing the harmony between artificial architecture and natural landscape. You can go boating, climbing mountains and get wet in Jiulongxia drift. Then you can have a real treat in the happy farmhouses at the foot of the mountain. There are various dishes such as fern, crucian, blood duck, snail and chicken, and nostoc commune.
