Yumu Mountain is situated in the Hengyang Basin of the central Hunan hilly area, within Yumushan Township, Zhengxiang District, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. Its core scenic area covers about 4 square kilometers, and the combined regional area is approximately 20 square kilometers.

Lying to the west of downtown Hengyang, the main peak stands at an altitude of 238 meters with a relative height of 180 meters. Yumu Mountain was originally named Yunfu Mountain.

Cangjie Pian, written by Li Si in the Qin Dynasty to standardize Chinese characters, records:

"Yunfu Mountain is broad and gently rolling."

Since ancient times, the mountain has been named Yumu (Rain Mother) Mountain for its renowned efficacy in rain-praying rituals.

According to Records of Jingzhou compiled by Sheng Hongzhi of the Eastern Jin Dynasty:

"In eastern Xiang lies Yumu Mountain, upon which there stands a shrine altar. Prayers for rainfall have always been answered with timely blessings of rain, hence the mountain’s name."

It is located on the eastern side of Shigu Hill in Hengyang City.

According to legend, during the Tianbao reign of the Tang Dynasty, Dong Fengxian once refined elixirs in the cave, hence it was named the Immortal Cave. It is also said that the cave runs northward to connect with the Water Curtain Cave (also known as Zhuling Cave) on Nanyue Mountain. Distinguished eminent monks of Nanyue once traveled between Hengyang and Nanyue through this cave, arriving in an instant.

The inner walls of the cave were once inscribed with as many as a thousand poems and works by celebrated figures of successive dynasties, including Du Fu, Han Yu and Wang Fuzhi, making Zhuling Cave renowned across Hunan for its poetic legacy.

Later, due to wars and especially the indiscriminate bombing by the Japanese invaders, most of the inscriptions and carvings were destroyed. Only the remnant edge of the small cave and partial characters such as "Rear Zhuling Cave" and "East Cliff" above the cave entrance remain. Though renovated in later years, the original appearance can never be fully restored.

Nevertheless, as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Hengyang, Zhuling Cave still captivates the hearts and minds of numerous visitors to this day.
