Hengyang is a key city for religious work nationwide, characterized by "Four Abundances":

  Complete Religious Denominations and Large Number of Believers: It is home to all five major religions—Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism, Protestantism, and Islam. There are 5 municipal-level and 11 county-level religious organizations, and 1 religious college (the Nanyue Taoist Class for Female Disciples under the Chinese Taoist College). The city has 560,000 religious believers, accounting for approximately 8% of the total population.

  Large Number of Religious Personnel: Statistically, there are 1,002 registered religious personnel in the city.

  Abundant Religious Venues: There are 480 registered and licensed religious venues, including 4 national key religious sites designated by the State Council and 15 provincial key sites approved by the Hunan Provincial Government.

   Frequent International Religious Exchanges: Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, dozens of seminarians from the Catholic Huangshawan Seminary in Hengyang moved to Taiwan. Today, they are distributed across Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, the United States, Singapore, and other regions, with over 10 clergy members still alive who maintain regular contact with the Catholic Church in Hengyang. Representatives of Buddhism and Taoism from Hengyang have frequently visited Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and other places for academic exchanges, enhancing the international influence of Hengyang's religions.
